Inhumanity inspiration #3 - The Road

When I was writing a CYOA game, you have to find this balance between doing and description. Action and prose. Whenever I tried to write a little bit of prose to give the scenario the player finds themselves in more depth, I tried to channel the devastatingly beautiful and grim style that The Road uses to such a profound effect.

Very few books want to make you sink into the abyss willingly, but McCarthy's post-apocalyptic novel gives you a sense of dread at a post-apocalyptic humanity that it is hard not to.

Personally, although I prefer The Death of Grass as post-apocalyptic literature, the sheer brutality of The

Road falls more in line with my own writings in Inhumanity. The sense of family that acts as a drive is key to Inhumanity as well but the sheer bleak landscapes that occupy the spaces between the last bastions of civilisation (Haven's) have been lifted straight out of the grim North American Landscapes of McCarthy's masterpiece.
